Proportions check

The quarter-zip should sit just below the collarbone when fully zipped. If the zip pull starts at the chin when closed, the body length is too long. The hem falls at the hip — same as a crewneck.

Layering notes

A mid-layer piece. Wear over a T-shirt base and under a jacket or coat. In mild weather, it's the outer layer on its own. Under a puffer or overcoat in winter.

The most common mistake

Buying a polyester fleece when a merino blend exists — the aesthetic is the same, the smell over time is not.

Who should think twice

Office environments that require a tie or smart dress should not include a quarter-zip fleece in the rotation — it has a hard formality ceiling of smart-casual. Very formal or tailoring-dominant wardrobes should choose a fine-gauge cardigan instead.
