Proportions check

The ribbed hem should sit exactly at the belt loops with the bomber worn closed. If it rides above the waistband it looks shrunken; if it falls below it looks like a rain jacket. The sleeve ribbing should end at the wrist with no visible shirt underneath.

Layering notes

The bomber is an outer layer for spring and autumn. In winter it works over a heavyweight crewneck or hoodie. It's slim enough to fit under a puffer or trench coat for a double-layer in severe cold.

The most common mistake

Buying it shiny — matte sateen or wool is the only acceptable finish.

Who should think twice

Very broad-shouldered men may find the ribbed-hem bomber visually widens the midsection by contrast with the tight waistband — look for a longer hemline version. Men over 40 who wear the bomber to look young should be careful; the garment reads authentically when the rest of the outfit is similarly casual.
