Proportions check

The flannel shirt worn as a jacket should fall straight from the shoulder without the front placket pulling across the chest. If buttons pull sideways, the chest is too tight for layering use.

Flannel is at its best as the outermost layer over a T-shirt or henley in shoulder seasons. In deep autumn, layer under a chore coat or CPO jacket. Avoid flannel under a structured blazer — too much texture conflict.
